The camera shots from the vehicle was were a disaster...but the long shots were OK. The announcing WAS only fair etc

But I went and watched the VERSUS interview with Chris Derrick and it was a dud but it wasn't terrible...she did not tear "that young man apart" she just had no idea what she was talking about. Gags is certainly overstating things when he says "it sent the port back years"

Listen folks, its simple. 3 cameras(steady)in carts, like the foot locker lead cam. one camera in the front, a second rover, and a third, that starts in the back of the field and works its way up to the front.

just like they do in the tour de france. like they've been doing it in he tour for over a decade. that way you see the front individual battle, and you can see the team battle. and if you have a producer that knows what the heck he's doing, you can have the most exciting xc race coverage EVER!!!
insert Floreani and Selby, and gag (no pun intended) the usuals, done deal.
Get me the VS number, lets do this right, and excite the masses.

We are not coaching up foreign runners. They are for the most part older and more accomplished runners who have no intention of going back to where they came from. Very few runners come to the US to develop their running skills. Most are tween-ers that are looking to get out of desperate situations. Look at the most dominant teams in NCAA cross country history (i.e. UTEP and Arkansas) and its clear to see they were nothing more than foreign auxiliary corps. It is not just the US that is cutting their throats, just look at what the Premier League has done to English football.
I don’t want coaches to have the option of bringing these guys in. You must be a US citizen, no exceptions. If you give someone the chance to get something without having to work hard… you end up with UTEP and Arkansas.
Along with this is the fact that most schools are subsidized by my taxes! Whatever happened to the term, “charity start at home”.
Ok all you international leftist, flame away.

I know he ran some 800s. I idolized the UM team from the Willis/Brannen era. He just never really got in any high profile open 8s, because as you point out, Brannen and Ellerton were there. I just look foward to seeing him in some bigger meet 800s, like Common Wealth, to see how competative he can be in it.

He's run 1:45 in the open 800m. During his time at UM they already had Brannen and Ellerton in the 800m so Willis ran the 3k/mile/1500m more.

Must be an Oregon fan, not a Hasay fan. They left Galen Rupp at #1.

To add another point...I would rather see a tape delayed version that was put together well, instead of the poor live product that we had this year. Hopefully the kinks will be worked out and things will get better before they get any worse.

There had to be something wrong with the lead camera. They should have tested it before the event and had a back up lead camera. That was my biggest complaint - becoming motion sick from watching a cross country race should never happen. Hopefully the crew that put on the event will do more for free next year since the blew this year's production!

The womens race was dominated by a long commercial break at the most crucial part of the race 13-17 mins. When they cam back they found that the script they had written wasn't happening and we had 2-3 minutes watching JB struggling. The race was virtually over when we saw the winner cross the line.

The event is also primarily a 'team' event and yet the commentary emphasised the individual. it was almost a complete waste of time bothering to cover the womens race.
Reminds me of the early BBC coverage of the London Marathon when anyone who finished after the program ended at around 2hours 35min was described as a 'fun runner' !!!!

It is not a question of how many commercials - it is a question of how many companies want to buy the 30 second spots. CSI gets more money per 30 seconds than "the Jay Leno show" (9PM time slot).

Before the "money is the root of all evil" people jump on this, keep in mind that according to Seemes. the ADs out there look at ticket sales, attendance, tv coverage, etc. This factors into what to do with the budget. An AD has 30 coaches advocating why their sport is better and needs more money.
Money pays for meets, hotel rooms at the meets, food for the athletes when traveling, cold spas, recruiting trips, gas in the vans to drive a team to a place to do hills, etc.

Selling ads for a higher price would be the thing, but that's driven more by ratings.

I don't believe more commercials/ad revenue is the answer here...there were too many commercials already.

CWL, I completely agree with you. My team has two and that's awesome. It makes me wanna work harder when I see them pushing forward; however, when the team is completely made up of Kenyans and etc...that's a different story. When we train the foreign athletes here in the collegiate system of the US, we train them to be the best; then, they go back to their home country and take a GOLD medal away from the US in the Olympics & World Championships.

On the other note, Cross Country lovers are some of the most honest people I know. That's why I would trust my donations and financial backing to them. I wouldn't mind donating to the sport as long as it was used for ADVERTISING. We don't need someone else to completely advertise our sport. How many people do you know that have a Facebook?
