Scott named SEC Freshman of the Week

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – Based on her showing last weekend at the Stanford Invitational, Dominique Scott has been tabbed the Southeastern Conference Co-Freshman Athlete of the Week as announced by the league office Tuesday. She posted an SEC-leading performance at 10,000 meters at the distance event in Palo Alto, Calif. Scott is the first Razorback freshman to earn outdoor conference honors since the 2010 season.

“(Dominique) is really starting to adjust and get comfortable,” head coach Lance Harter said. “She’s starting to answer the bell in competition and was very consistent throughout her race (at Stanford). There was only about a second-and-a-half variation between her first 23 laps. That’s just amazing discipline and consistency. Then, her last two laps were her fastest of the race. To have a freshman break 34 minutes in her first race is something we haven’t seen here and we’ve had some pretty good 10,000-meter runners.”

Scott made her 10,000-meter debut at the Stanford Invitational with an SEC-leading time of 33:54.95. With her performance, she is currently ranked No. 1 in the SEC and No. 23 in the NCAA at the distance. Scott owns the top time among the nation’s freshman in the event. Her time is the fastest by an Arkansas runner at 10,000 meters since the 2009 season.

In the April 10 release of the USTFCCCA national poll, the top six went unchanged with Arkansas holding steady at No. 6 in the nation. The Razorbacks are one of three SEC teams in the top 10 and one of six in the top 25 overall. Arkansas continues to be joined in the rankings by LSU, Florida, Georgia, Tennessee and Auburn.

Arkansas competes at the UTEP Invitational this weekend at Kidd Field in El Paso, Texas. The UTEP Invitational is the fourth event of the outdoor season for the Razorbacks.
