Second place after day two of SEC meet
BATON ROUGE, La. – In the final event of day two of the 2012 Southeastern Conference Championships in Baton Rouge, La., Razorback freshmen Dominique Scott and Kaitlin Flattmann combined for 14 points with their respective second- and third-place finishes
in the 10,000 meters. Earlier in the day, No. 11 Arkansas picked up four points from Makeba Alcide in the heptathlon. At the end of day two and through three scored events, the Razorbacks are in second place in the team standings with 18 points.
In her outdoor conference meet debut, Scott ran in the lead pack the entire race and finished the event with a runner-up time of 35:04.96, good for eight points toward the Razorbacks’
team total. She was followed by Flattmann, who crossed the finish line in third place with a time of 35:47.31. The race marked the 10,000-meter debut for Flattmann.
“I would have loved to get the full 10 points for my team, but I’ll have to take the eight today,” Scott said. “This is only my second 10K ever so I’m happy with my race and, hopefully,
I can come back and get some more points Sunday in the 5K. I’m definitely fit and ready for to help my team as much as I can in this meet.”
Arkansas’ first points of the day came from Alcide in the heptathlon. The Razorback junior closed out the two-day, seven-event competition with 5,466 points to put her team on the
scoreboard. The score was her second highest of the season. Alcide is scheduled to return to the track Saturday for the open high jump and long jump competitions.
In addition to the team’s scoring events, the Razorbacks began preliminary action Friday. Arkansas qualified one runner in each event of the preliminary round with Regina George
at 200 meters, Martine Borge at 800 meters and Brittany Hyter in the 400-meter hurdles. All three of those finals will be run Sunday on the final day of competition at the SEC Championships.
The Razorbacks will have four scoring opportunities Saturday with finals in the 3,000-meter steeplechase, high jump, pole vault and long jump. Preliminary rounds will continue with
competition in the 100 meters, 400 meters, 1,500 meters and 100-meter hurdles.
Live coverage of the conference meet will air on ESPN3.com on Saturday and Sunday. That coverage will air Saturday from 4:30-7:15 p.m. (CT) and Sunday from 3-7 p.m. Dwight Stones,
Larry Rawson and Lewis Johnson will have the call of the action. A two-hour highlight show recapping the SEC Championships will air Wednesday, May 23, at 7 p.m. on ESPNU.
In addition to the ESPN3.com video schedule, meet coverage for the 2012 SEC Outdoor Track and Field Championships will include live results and an interactive blog. Saturday’s blog
