LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Charachesicia Lockhart secured the University of Louisville track and field team’s final NCAA Championships bid on Saturday at Hodges Stadium on the campus of the University of North Florida in Jacksonville, Fla.

Behind a personal-best mark in the triple jump, Lockhart placed seventh in the competition to secure her second entry to the national championships. The senior, who qualified on Thursday for nationals in the long jump, registered the second-best triple jump mark in school history of 13.28m/43-7 on her fifth attempt. Heading into the finals, she was in 14th place, two positions shy of qualifying. However, she improved that mark by more than a foot to climb seven spots in the standings.

Amashi Kendall nearly became LouisvilleÂ’s seventh athlete to advance to nationals, but she finished four spots short in the womenÂ’s hammer throw competition. KendallÂ’s first throw, which went 56.49m/185-4, carried her into the finals, but she was unable to improve the mark and finished 16th overall.

On the men’s side, freshman Calvin Arsenault completed his season with a 17th-place showing in the 110m hurdles quarterfinals. Despite not advancing to the national championships, the freshman ended his season fittingly, breaking the school record – a mark that went untouched since 1999 – for the second time in the event by finishing the race in 13.99. The Kitchener, Ontario, native opened the outdoor season in the 110m hurdles with a mark of 14.42 and improved his time in less than two months by .43 seconds.

The six athletes who have qualified for nationals – Khadija Abdullah (shot put), Chinwe Okoro (shot put), Holly Knight (10,000m), Michelle Theophille (high jump), Maggie Gilbertson (high jump) and Lockhart (long jump, triple jump) – return to action from June 6-9 at the NCAA Outdoor Championships at Drake Stadium in Des Moines, Iowa.
