Rudisha Just Misses Record at Paris Diamond League

Ohhhhhhh So Close!...

David Rudisha just misses breaking his world record at the Paris Diamond League running 1:41.54 which is just off his 2010 record of 1:41.01. Rudisha was rabbited through 400 in 49.3 and finished more than 4 seconds ahead of the next competitor. It's looking like we'll see the first sub-1:41 sometime in 2012!

Well he still did an awful job. They aren't within a stride of each other until 375m. His 49.xx is 23/26. He gives him someone to chase but doesn't cut any wind for him. Rudisha can run those times because he is a freak and the rabbit can do a "good job" as long as he doesn't inhibit him in any way. If you want to see a 1:40.xx, put Scherer out there, it's honestly the only thing that guy does.

Tangui is Rudisha's favorite pacemaker (and training partner), Shane. Scherer is great too, but Tangui has done a pretty fantastic job getting Rudisha through in roughly 49.xx. He paced both his 1:41.09 and 1:41.01.

Jim,

By that logic and keeping with percentages, being off of the 1500m/mile world record by ~1 second "isn't really that close." That's saying if someone ran a 3:27 1500m it wouldn't be very close to a record. You can break it down further and say someone running a 9.64 in the 100m "isn't really that close" to the world record of 9:58.

C'mon Jim Gray, half a second is pretty close when talking about a race of 800 meters.
