Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce Defends Her Olympic Title!!


Jamaica's Fraser-Pryce wins in 10.75. In 2008 she ran 10.78 to win Gold

Carmelita Jeter wins her first Olympic medal, taking away silver after finishing in 10.78. Veronica Campbell Brown finishes behind Jeter--just like she did at the 2011 World Championships--running 10.81. This is Campbell Browns 6th Olympic Medal, spread over three Olympic Games.

Gold: Shelly-Ann Fraser-Price (Jamaica) 10.75
Silver: Carmelita Jeter (USA) 10.78
Bronze: Veronica Campbell-Brown (Jamaica) 10.81

The women's 100m final was a win for Jamaica as Fraser-Pryce defended her Olympic title with the win in 10.75! USA's Carmelita Jeter was right there but got edged at the line to earn the silver medal in a season's best of 10.78. Jamaica's Veronica Campbell Brown rounded out the medalists with a 10.91, another season's best. The top 6 in the final went under 11 seconds with the fourth and fifth place finshers, USA's Tianna Madison (10.85) and Allyson Felix (10.89) posting personal bests.

Heat 1 - Carmelita Jeter is not messing around! She won heat 1 in another 10.83 and was followed by Jamaica's star Veronica Campbell-Brown in a 10.89. Both automatically advance to the final.

Potential Next Two in on Time: Santos (Brazil) 11.17,  Jones-Ferrette (ISV) 11.22

Heat 2 - Jamaica's Shelly-Ann Fraser-Price had a great start in heat 2 over the rest of the field and ran away from the pack with a 10.86.  Allyson Felix snuck in for a close 2nd place to secure her spot in what should be an insane 100m final.  Kelly-Ann Baptiste of Trinidad and Tobago may be in on time with her third place finish but we will have to wait and see. 

Potential Next Two in on Time: Baptiste 11.00, Okparaebo 11.10 (NR)

Heat 3 - Heat 3 was a ridiculously close finish as USA's Tianna Madison battled it out with Nigeria's Blessing Okabare who both finished with a 10.92, a personal best for Okabare! Okabare had a great surge coming into the last 15 meters to power through to the final. Murielle Ahoure, the third place finisher came in with a 11.01 to qualify for the final along with Kelly-Ann Baptiste of Trinidad and Tobago. Both will qualify on time.
