100 meters after this lap Sally kipyego takes the lead. kidane settles in second. 200 meters later dibada moves to second, cheryiout to third

Dibaba explodes in the last lap!! Completely runs away from the other two in a blazing 62 for the last lap. She defends her Olympic title and is followed by Kenya's Sally Kipyego and Vivian Cheruiyot for silver and bronze! 

Two laps to go
! Kipyego continues to lead! Dibaba breathing down her neck! Kidane begins to fall off a bit. Dibaba takes over with 600 to go!!

2:57:29 for the last k! The race has been narrowed to a top four between Kidane of Ethiopia, Dibaba, Cheruiyot, and Kipyego. They are now lapping people. Kipyego makes a move with 4 laps to go! Dibaba moves up with three to go! Waiting for the break!

Top 7 open up the gap in the lead pack. Kidane takes the lead and looks very comfortable with 6 laps to go. Picking up the pace with a 71 last lap. The race is down to 4!

10 laps to go
: Kidane takes the lead with Vivian Cheruiyot of Kenya on her back. Three Kenyans and three Ethiopans in the top 6.  

Race is taken over by the Kenyans. Dibaba of Ethiopia takes it into the 4k at 12:24. Kipyego of Kenya takes the lead with Kidane of Ethiopia following and the race spreads out. Amy Hastings in the mix of the lead pack. 

9:18 at 3,000 meters, Japan still leads the charge as the Kenyans follow them on 31 minute pace.  Kenyans and Ethiopians begin to move in, leading a change up!

Mile 1: Japanese teammates took the pace out together in the first 400 meters with nobody following. 2:30 at the 800 meter mark with Japanese leading and Kenyans starting the chase. 4:56 for 1600m.
