ANOTHER GOLD FOR THE US 4X400 TEAM!! 1.5 SECONDS OFF WORLD RECORD!!

The US 4x400 team is at it again! After a great first leg by Deedee Trotter who gave the team a 10 meter lead, the gold was all about the United States. Trotter handed off the Allyson Felix who not only maintained the lead by also widended the gap in a blazing 48.85 400! Felix gave the paton to Francena McCorory who also maintained the gap and split a 49.95 to hand off to the anchor, the great Sanya Richards-Ross who brought the team into the line in an almost world record time of 3:16.88. This was Richards-Ross's 3rd consecutive gold medal in the women's 4x400 relay!

USA GETS WORLD RECORD IN 4X100!!!!


The United States relay team of Madison, Felix, Knight, and Jeter smashed the previous world record of 41.37 to run a blazing 40.82 to kill the old record time by 0.55 for a near perfect race!! Jamaica followed in 2nd place but couldn't touch the Americans who were brought to the line by 100m silver medalist Carmelita Jeter against Jamaica's Kerron Stewart. Jamaica ran a national record time of 41.44 along with Ukraine who also ran a national record for bronze in 42.04!

Women's 4x400 Semi-Final Live Updates:

Heat 1 - Heat 1 was more of a battle for 2nd and 3rd as first place was established early by Jamaica, bronze medalists in Beijing, who led almost the entire relay. Ukraine, Nigeria, and France ended up battling it out for the final two relay spots as the final lap was left to a kick between anchor legs. It was Ukraine and France, who had a very strong 3rd leg to push the team into the top 3.  Jamaica came through the line in a new season's best time of 3:25.13 to win and was followed by Ukraine (3:25.90) and France (3:35.94) on the inside lane to advance to the final. 

Potential Time Qualifiers: Nigeria (3:26.29)

Heat 2 - Heat 2 was a battle from the gun between Russia and the US team as the two relays teams were upfront and together from the 2nd leg.  Russia led until the end of the 3rd leg as the US edged ahead and into the lead heading into the final leg. Deedee Trotter of the US brought the Americans into the finish ahead of Russia in a qualifying time of 3:22.09. Russia followed in a season's best of 3:23.11 along with Great Britain who also had a season's best of 3:25.05.

Women's 4x100 Live Updates:
Heat 1 - The US team qualified easily in heat 1 as the anchor brought the team into the line in a quick 41.66, a season's best for the relay team. With the exception of the first hand-off, the US team looked flawless with their exchanges. Tarmoh did end up being a contributor on the US team, running the 2nd leg and helping her team advance to the final.  Trinidad and Tobago followed in 2nd with a national record as Semoy Hackett anchored with a 42.31. The Netherlands followed with an automatic qualifying spot in 3rd place, another national record with a time of 42.45. 

Heat 2 - There were no surprises in heat 2 as the three favorites advanced to the final. Ukraine just edged out Jamaica for the win in 42.36.  Jamaica followed in a close 42.37 and Germany came in third to qualify for the final in 42.69. Nigeria and Brazil were the two teams to qualify on time in the qualifying rounds of 4x100's.

Where Does Tarmoh Fit in?

Jeneba Tarmoh, one of the players in the controversial 100m dead heat debacle at the 2012 Olympic Trials, has once again found herself in a bit of a sticky wicket.

Two days ago Tarmoh took to her twitter account to do what many people do, tweet their grievances and act disgruntled. What she was tweeting about, we’ll let you decide, but to Flotrack it sounds like she may be getting pushed out of the 4x100m team.

Despite finishing in the 3rd/4th position at the Trials, Tarmoh was guaranteed a spot in the relay pool. But news of botched handoffs in relay practice have recently surfaced and judging from her tweets, it will be interesting to see what team the USA brings to the oval for the opening rounds of 4x100m tonight.
