Americans fare well at Stockholm Diamond League

Rowbury runs season's best
Women's 1500m
Women's 200m
In the field were three American women, including member of the World Record 4x100 team Bianca Knight. After the gun went off Charonda Williams and Bianca Knight jumped to an early lead. They ran neck and neck the entire straight, but what appeared to be a miscalculation on Knight's part had her leaning way before the line, giving Williams the opening to win the race by a very narrow .04 second margin.
Third Fastest Steeple In History
Women's 3000m Steeplechase
This race was all about the Olympic Gold medalist in the field--and the other six Olympic Finalists in the field. Yuliya Zaripova of Russia went out with the rabbits and never looked back. The first 1000m was passed in 2:58, the leaders likely on a mission to churn out a sub-9 performance. The middle pace lulled a bit, but when Zaripova took the lead with 1000m left, she made a long drive to the finish closing her last kilometer in 2:59.
Men's 100m
Without the big names in the field, young up and comer Ryan Bailey had a chance to get a 'W' on the big stage. After a 'faulty' start that resulted in no one being ejected, Bailey got out quick and closed hard to run away from those ever formidable Jamaicans.
Women's 100m Hurdles
This race featured four women who made the Olympic final in the event, including silver and bronze medalist Dawn Harper and Kellie Wells. Without Lolo Jones in the race to badger the two Americans, they were left to their own devices and did not disappoint. Harper pulled away from the rest of the field over the last three hurdles and crossed the finish line first in 12.65 seconds. Much like the Olympic games, Wells finished just behind her teammate in 12.76 seconds.
Men's 3000m Run
With the pacers told to go through the first 1000m in 2:30 and 2000m at 5:00, this race was set up to be hot. The pacers did an impeccable job, bringing them through in 2:29 and 5:00.3. John Kipkoech, Collins Chemboi, and Isiah Koech took the lead after the pacers dropped off and it became the Kenyan show until two laps to go. Aussie Collis Birmingham made a run for the lead pack with about 800 to go, with Evan Jager moving with him. The last lap was a mad dash and in the end Isiah Koech showed the field a clean pair of heels and left with a new personal best of 7:30.43. Jager hung on for a solid personal best, crossing the line in 7:35.16.
Women's 400m Dash
Sanya Richards-Ross took the race out fairly conservative but powered through the final curve and came out neck and neck with Amantle Montsho. The two duked it out for the last 100m but SRR came out victorious, snatching those coveted Diamond League points and pushing ever closer to first place in the rankings, a spot currently held by Amantle Montsho.
Men's 800m Run
With Matt Scherer pacing, and Duane Solomon fresh off a hot personal best, it was fitting for the two lap dash to headline the evening. The pace was hot from the gun and Scherer had to push to get to the front, and eventually brought them through the quarter in 49.45--somewhere in the crowd a crotchety old man was screaming "call the fire department, this ones out of control!" Solomon stuck to Scherer moved into the lead with 200m to go. The final 100m, however, would prove to be Solomon's biggest obstacle. Powering down the stretch was the controversial figure known as Algerian Olympic Champ Taoufik Makhloufi and 18 year old Mohammed Aman. Solomon would lose eight places in 100m and Mo Aman held off Makhloufi to get the win in 1:43.56.

American SweepWomen's 100m Hurdles

Jager Big PRMen's 3000m Run
