Cavaliers Host Virginia/Panorama Farms Invitational Saturday
WomenÂÂ’s race starts at 10:00 a.m.; men start at 10:30 a.m.
CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va.—The Virginia menÂÂ’s and womenÂÂ’s cross country teams host the Virginia/Panorama Farms Invitational Saturday morning in Earlysville, Va. The womenÂÂ’s 5K race is slated to begin at 10:00 a.m., while the menÂÂ’s 8K run will start at 10:30 a.m.
Admission is free to home cross country meets and t-shirts will be distributed courtesy of Ragged Mountain Running Shop (while supplies last). In addition, the Cavalier Band will be in attendance.
The menÂÂ’s race will see 10 schools compete, including three nationally-ranked teams. The Cavaliers will be running against No. 22 Arkansas, California, Duke, Howard, Kentucky, No. 21 Michigan, Norfolk State, No. 4 Oklahoma and VCU.
The womenÂÂ’s race will have eight schools running, including No. 15 Virginia (No. 1 in the Southeast Region), California, Howard, Kentucky, Liberty, Norfolk State, VCU and Wisconsin.
In addition to a strong field, this weekend marks the first time this season that results can count towards at-large selection evaluation for the NCAA Championships.
The Cavalier men will be led by graduate student Mark Amirault (Walpole, Mass.), an All-American in 2011, and senior Sean Keveren (Brentwood, Tenn.), who earned All-America honors in 2012 in the 10,000 meters at the NCAA outdoor meet. The Virginia women are led by graduate student Catherine White (Roanoke, Va.), who finished fourth at the 2009 NCAA cross country meet and was an All-American in the 10K at the national outdoor meet in 2012.
Up next, the Cavaliers will compete in the Wisconsin adidas Invitational on Oct. 12 in Madison, Wis.
