LOUISVILLE, Ky. –
A former pair of University of Louisville cross country and track and field standouts will be competing this weekend on national and international stages.
Former track All-American Michael Eaton heads to Kavarna, Bulgaria, on Saturday, Oct. 6, for the 20th IAAF World Half Marathon Championships, while cross country and track
All-American Wesley Korir is set to race in the Chicago Marathon on Sunday, Oct. 7.
A Bowling Green, Ky., native, Eaton earned All-America honors twice on the track in the 10,000m. Eaton, who lettered from 2008-11, placed 13th in 2008 and had a 20th-place
showing in 2011. In cross country, he was a four-time all-region honoree and a three-time all-BIG EAST medalist. In January of 2012, he finished 57th in the Olympic Trials Marathon after being the only male qualifying athlete from the state of Kentucky.
Korir, an Eldoret, Kenya, native, won the heralded Boston Marathon this year in 2:12:40 despite near-record high temperatures for the event. The win was his third marathon
victory in his post-collegiate career after he captured the 2009 and 2010 L.A. Marathon crowns. He holds the second-fastest race time of 2:08:24, which he set in 2009. Korir, who lettered from 2005-07, earned All-America honors in cross country and track in
2007.
