According to Armory Track's Doug Binder, Webb is looking to move up in distance and possibly test marathon waters in the future. He has yet to decide on a coach and who will be training with him.
Oregon is home to coach Alberto Salazar, whom Webb worked with until March 2011, and coach Jerry Schumacher. Schumacher is a candidate for Webb to work with and build up mileage for a possible marathon in the near future. A few weeks ago, Shumacher expressed interest on his side to have Webb with his team in Portland.
Webb turns 30-years old on Janaury 14th. He would be 34 years old, if he were to make another run for the 2016 Olympics in Rio.
It was in Eugene, when Webb was last on the track for the 5K and finished last in his heat. After the race, he said that he felt "relatively comfortable," yet it was a "long and frustrating" year for him. The focus was on being a father with his wife, Julia, expecting their first child soon.
Since Joanie Webb was welcomed into the world, Webb won a 5K road race in Virginia and has started to focus on what comes next in his career. The article did not quote Webb discussing plans to run a marathon yet, but the idea is being tossed around.
How his form and talent translate to the marathon will be up to the coaches to figure out, but he has yet to even select his coach.
Much like Joanie, Alan is taking baby steps as he figures out what comes next in life for him as a father and a runner.
Webb will be racing in the New York Road Runner's 5K Dash to the Finish on November 7th in a field that will feature 16 other Olympians.
