Who Will be the Top American at NCAAs
Who Will be the Top American at NCAAs
This year at the NCAA Championships the front group will be deeper in non-Americans than we've seen in the past few year. This year presents a new opportunity for an up and coming American to break through onto the NCAA scene. Without the constant challenge of Chris Derrick, the ballsy running of Luke Puskedra or the 'what if' factor of German Fernandez, who will be the next to step up to the plate of NCAA Cross Country's finest.
This year there it may be hard to see an American in the top 5, but there are many that will be fighting for the top American spot. After his race at Wisconsin and his win at Big Ten's, Zachery Mayhew has put himself near the top of the list. At the beginning of the season you would have probably suspected his teammate Andy Bayer. After a slow start it seems that Bayer is rounding into shape at the right time so this isn't out of the question. Don't forget Maverick Darling, who told Flotrack at the beginning of the year he was gunning for a top 5 finish. It's a tough task, but those results may get him the honors. Don't leave out gutsy running from Craig Lutz or Trevor Dunbar, two guys not afraid to put themselves into position.
There are plenty of worthy candidates out there so let's hear what you think. Cast your vote in the poll and let us know how you think it will play out in the comments below!
