Usain Bolt and Allyson Felix have been named the IAAF World Athlete of Year. This is Bolt's fourth time winning the award and Felix's first.

Bolt earned the award after defending his 100m, 200m, and 4x100m gold medals at the London Olympic Games. The Jamaican superstar beat out Kenyan middle-distance runner David Rudisha and American hurdler Aries Merritt.

This is not the first time Bolt and Felix have been honored for the same award. The pair won the Rising Star award for promising young athletes in 2003.

After settling for silver in the 200m at the 2008 Beijing Olympics, Felix stormed back in 2012 to win three gold medals at the London Olympics. She won the 200m and was a member of both the 4x100m and 4x400m winning relays.

Felix beat out shot putter Valerie Adams from New Zealand and British heptathlete Jessica Ennis.
