Five Questions with Footlocker contender Sean McGorty
Sean McGorty has been silently dominating the south region this XC season. Most recently, the the senior from Chanitlly High School in Virginia broke Andrew Bumbalough's course record of 14:32 at McAlphine Park with his time of 14:28 at Foot Locker South. When Bumbalough ran that time, he finished second at the Foot Locker Finals. Last year, McGorty was 10th in San Diego and will be patiently waiting for his moment to step into the spotlight.

Q.This year started off with a new course Record at Great American, did that give you the sense that you were on a different fitness level than ever before?

A.
After running a new course record at Great American it gave me a sense of confidence going into the rest of the season.  I think it helped renforce that my training was working and that I was in better shape than I ever had been at this point in the season.

Q.How have you handled the pressures of expectations over these last few Post Season Meets (State/ Regionals)

A. Heading into these past couple of races I have tried to follow the same routine from the rest of my reason.  Having this being consistent I think has really helped me.  I also think that my coach does a great job of not putting extra pressure on me and he is really good at keeping me relaxed before my races.

Q. Q.You've raced a lot of these guys before, (Ed Ches, Leingang, Gardner, Brickell) How do you see this race developing and how do you put yourself in position to contend?

A.
I think this years race will be a pretty fast one.  There is tons of talent and everyone at Footlocker is a great runner.  The race will be very competitive and I am looking forward to running with these guys again.  Going into the race I just want to run my race and I will see what position that puts me in and then react from there.

Q.
At the end of the day, what are your aspirations and what would merit a successful day when you cross the line?

A.
From the beginning of the season my goal has been to be in the top five finishers.  This is still my first goal and I would be pleased if I was able to achieve it.

Q.
You have committed to Stanford, what sold you on becoming a Cardinal ?

A.
Stanford is really an amazing school.  On my visit I was amazed with the campus and the weather there is awesome.  I really liked the team and felt like I could fit in right away.  I also felt like the school in general was the best fit for me and that I would be happiest there.  I am looking forward to running there next year.
