World Junior Record Holder Ajee Wilson Goes Pro
World Junior 600m Record Holder and 2012 World Junior 800m Champion Ajee Wilson has decided to defer college and instead sign a professional contract with adidas.
National Scholastic Athletes Foundation's Facebook page wrote, “World Junior Record Holder and 2012 World Junior 800m Champion Ajee Wilson has turned Pro. She will be running for adidas and will be represented by Ray Flynn. She will continue to train with Derek Thompson of the Juventus Track Club of Philadelphia.”
This annoucement comes only three days after Wilson broke the World Junior 600m record with her 1:27.30 first-place finish at the NYU Team Challenge. The previous record was 1:27.4 set by Great Britain’s Lindsey Macdonald in 1981.
Wilson has a personal best in the 800m of 2:00.91 from the World Junior Championships, which is number two all-time for high schoolers.
The next major race for Wilson will be the women’s 600m at the 106th Millrose Games. Wilson will go up against some of the top U.S. 800m runners in Alysia Montano, Phoebe Wright, and Erica Moore.
Must watch performance from Ajee Wilson where we first saw something very special about Wilson. Girl's sprint medley championship, Wilson gets the baton in last over eight seconds behind the leaders while anchoring the 800 (start at 2:15 into video):
