Ducks DMR Travels to Big Apple

Hasay invited to compete in the mile at the Millrose Games.

EUGENE, Ore. – Oregon’s men’s distance medley relay team is headed to New York to compete in the Armory Collegiate Invitational on Friday. The Ducks will be in the featured collegiate section that will go off at 3:05 p.m. Pacific time.

Oregon is tentatively slated to run Virginia transfer Brett Johnson on the opening 1,200 meter leg, Mike Berry on the 400, Elijah Greer on the 800 and Mac Fleet on the 1,600. Junior Boru Guyota is also making the trip and will run in the 1,000 meters at 12:09 p.m. Pacific.

Oregon will be going up against Arkansas, which currently has the nation’s No. 3 DMR team (9:44.03), as well as Villanova – No. 9 at 9:52.56, and Stanford – No. 11 at 9:55.81. The Ducks come into the meet ranked eighth nationally in the DMR with a time of 9:50.15. Also in the 10-team field is Brigham Young, which had the nation’s top distance medley time a year ago (9:29.00), as well as American International, Columbia, Florida, Kansas and Tennessee.

The top 12 teams at the end of the regular season will automatically advance to the NCAA Indoor Championships March 8-9 in Fayetteville, Ark. Last season, it took at time of 9:31.71 to make the NCAA meet, with the Ducks painfully missing a bid by two-tenths of a second.

Hasay also headed to Manhattan

Senior Jordan Hasay has been invited to take part in the 106th Millrose Games, which will also be held at the Armory, on Feb. 16. Hasay, from Arroyo Grande, Calif., will run in the fabled women’s Wanamaker Mile at 5:40 p.m. Pacific time. The race will be streamed live on the web by ESPN3 and will also be rebroadcast the next day on ESPN at 5 p.m. Pacific.

Hasay, now a 15-time All-American, is the former Oregon record-holder in the indoor mile with a personal best of 4:33.01 from her 2011 NCAA championship race. That time broke the 29 year-old school record held by Duck running legend Leann Warren.

Duck Men Move Up to No. 4

Oregon’s men’s team moved up a spot to No. 4 in this week’s USTFCCCA poll. The women remained at No. 3.

The top five men’s teams were Arkansas, Florida, Texas A&M, Oregon and Arizona State. For the women, the top five were Clemson, Kansas, Oregon, Arkansas and Louisiana State.
