CANCELED: Severe Blizzard Causes BU Valentine Invitational to Shut Down

Due to the inclement weather that is expected in Boston this weekend, the Valentine Invitational that was scheduled to be held Friday and Saturday (Feb. 8 - 9) at the Boston University Track and Tennis Center has been cancelled. A severe blizzard that is set to roll through the northeast this weekend and is projected to dump up to three feet of snow on the Boston area throughout Friday and Saturday.

Boston University's Director of Track and Field Robyne Johnson said, "Our hearts go out to all the people who were depending on [Boston University] to have the meet."

"We've always had the meet and the athletic department and the university is going to shut everything down for the safety of everyone. We're true track fans and I truly feel bad for the situation. I know people were trying to get ahead of the storm and may already be in Boston. We apologize, but everything has been taken out of our hands. We had to cancel the meet by order of the university. We're really just being cautious for the amount of snow and blizzard that they're expecting because Massachusetts is going to be in a state of emergency, so we can't really have a track meet going on while it's so dangerous outside. Mother nature has spoken and we have to listen to what she is saying."

Johnson added, "I know track and field budgets aren’t great and we really apologize to anyone who has suffered monetarily. I don't think in the history of the Valentine Invitational we've ever canceled, but this is something we feel like we really have to do to protect everyone involved."
