A Meet On Valentine's Day...You Bet Ya!

-Boston, MA Feb 14 2013

Due to Winter Storm 'Nemo,' the ever-so lovely Boston University Valentine Invitational, which was scheduled for Feb. 8 / 9, had to be cancelled (good call because Nemo sure blanketed the Northeast).

A few teams, including Boston College, Darthmouth, Brown, Harvard and BU didn't give up on the Valentine Meet affair.  Tonight in Boston, those teams along with a few others set out to run some fast times.

Word is that David McCarthy
(Ireland/Providence College) ran a solo 7:51 3K, which would gain him a qualifying time to run in the European Trials.

Along with the 3K, McCarthy came back to the track to pace Rich Peters
(BU / Currently redshirting) for about 1000m in the Mile. Peters bested his PR by running 3:56.04 winning by a few seconds over former Providence College runner, Julian Matthews. After closing his final 400m in 56, Peters feels confident that there is more in the tank to drop his new PR. At this time, his 3:56.04 ranks 2nd in the world right now, behind American, Galen Rupp, who we all know tore up the track in Boston a few weeks prior.

It’s funny that after a historic snowstorm, which left many areas of New England snowed in for days, these athletes are able to burn up the BU track yet again.

On the women’s side, we saw a fast mile as well with Jillian King (Boston College) breaking the tape, unofficially in 4:34.1 along with Monica Adler (BU) right behind her just dipping under 4:35.

King is a strong runner who has been to NCAA Championships in the past and was a member of the BC XC team that qualified for NCAAs this past fall.

This past outdoor season, Adler just missed qualifying for the NCAA Championships by just half a second, so this time isn’t a shocker for her.  This also puts her towards the top of this seasons rankings heading into the latter part of the indoor season.

Edit: Adler is redshirting, so it would put her towards the top of the rankings, if she were to be competing.

A thank you goes out to Alex Civitano for help with results.
