Aries Merritt Withdraws From adidas Grand Prix
After a hamstring cramp in Shanghai last weekend, Aries Merritt has decided to withdraw from the Adidas Grand Prix in New York this weekend.
"I was looking forward to returning to Icahn Stadium on the new track there, but I won’t be able to make it,” said Merritt in the press release, “Ever since my hamstring cramped, I’ve hoped and planned to be back to training by today. I’m feeling better, but I just don’t have time to be ready by Saturday.”
The 2012 Olympic gold medalist and World Record-holder has a season best of 13.37 in the 110-hurdles from his season opener at LSU's Alumni Gold Meet. Merritt is expected to headline the 110-hurdle field at the Prefontaine Classic on June 1 in Eugene.
The current world leader in the race is David Oliver's 13.16 from Beijing's Diamond League meet on May 21.
Ryan Brathwaite, Joel Brown, Antwon Hicks, Orlando Ortega, Omoghan Osaghe, Jeff Porter, Sergey Shubenkov and Dwight Thomas were the other names on the preliminary start lists for this weekend's action.
