Jordan Hasay joins the Oregon Project
The most decorated Oregon runner in school history has decided to be coached by a former Duck standout. Jordan Hasay has joined the Nike Oregon Project and be coached by Alberto Salazar. She will make her professional debut in Thursday night's 10,000-meter run at the United States Championship.
Salazar first expressed interest for Hasay to join his group in late May. On Wednesday afternoon, the Oregon Project made the announcement official by tweeting a photo of Hasay holding her new uniform top with her teammates.
After finishing third at the NCAA Outdoor Championship in the 5,000-meter race in 15:50.78, Hasay told Flotrack site head Ryan Fenton that she was weighing offers and finalizing talks with her family and coaches.
Hasay will join a training group that includes Treniere Moser and Tara Erdmann. Looking back at her success from high school and the early spotlight that comes along with it, she could serve as a mentor to high school phenom Mary Cain, who is also coached by Salazar.
The 10,000-meter run is scheduled for 9:00 p.m. local time on Thursday. Hasay is also entered in the women's 5,000-meter run at 3:32 p.m. on Sunday, June 23.
Hasay's Personal Bests
800-meters: 2:08.32 from 2012 Oregon Twilight Meet
1,500-meters: 4:10.28 from 2011 Payton Jordan Cardinal Invitational
