Brianna Rollins sets 100H American Record

After dropping her time in each round of the United States outdoor track and field championship, Brianna Rollins set a new American record in the women’s 100-meter hurdles. She is the first athlete since 2006 to win the NCAA title and the U.S. title in the same year.

Under perfect weather conditions, Rollins took down Gail Devers' record of 12.33 from 2000, yet it wasn’t the perfect race. Looking at the replay, Ato Boldon of NBC sports said Rollins appeared to clip the fourth and final hurdles of the race.

Rollins remains undefeated in her 20 hurdle races of 2013 and has run the five fastest times of the year.

Rollins made her professional debut in the preliminary round and plans on representing Nike in European races before Moscow.

Joining Rollins will be Queen Harrison of Saucony, who finished second in 12.43. The third place finisher was Nia Ali of Nike in 12.48. Dawn Harper has the bye from the 2009 IAAF World Championships, where she won gold.

Not making the trip to Moscow will be 2012 Olympic bronze medalist Kellie Wells (4th, 12.54) and Iowa native Lolo Jones (12.55).
