Treniere Moser out of Moscow World Championships, Sarah Brown added to 1500m
U.S. Champion Treniere Moser will not race at the IAAF World Championships in Moscow. At 2:30am ET/10:30am (Moscow time) on Friday, August 9th Moser tweeted out to her followers that she had a hamstring problem that would not respond to treatments (see tweet at bottom of this page). Because of this, New Balance's Sarah Brown has her work cut out for her before the Monday's first round of the women's 1,500-meter run. According to Brown's Facebook status, she has to travel to New York for a Russian visa, have it processed and then board a plane to Russia before Sunday morning.
Brown posted the following status on her Facebook a few hours ago.
Brown got sixth place at U.S. Championships on June 22. Although Shannon Rowbury and Kerri Gallagher finished in front of Brown in Des Moines, Brown will compete for Team USA because she has run under the IAAF "A" standard of 4:05.50 and because Rowbury has decided to just focus on the 5,000-meter run despite running under the "A" with her 4:01.28 in Monaco.
The U.S. can send two "A" standards and one "B" to Moscow. Since Mary Cain has the "A" and Cory McGee has the "B," the other representative must therefore have the "A." Brown jumps Gallagher in the selection after running 4:05.27 at the Oxy HP prior to USAs.
Brown is represented by Icon Management, which tweeted Brown will head to Moscow to run for Team USA. Brown got her visa today (August 8th) and will leave for Moscow tomorrow.
Moser has the 14th fastest time in the world for 2013 after running 4:02.85 at the Prefontaine Classic on June 1. Since winning the U.S. title in Des Moines, Moser placed 13th at the Herculis Monaco Diamond League meeting after running 4:07.42. In that same race, for the first time in history, four American women dipped under 4:02 in the same race. Her struggles continued at the London Anniversary Games, where she failed to finish the 3,000-meter run.
We will keep you updated with this story as we get more information.
UPDATE: Tweet from Moser at 10:30am Moscow Time on August 9th citing a nagging hamstring injury.

UPDATE: Tweet from Moser at 10:30am Moscow Time on August 9th citing a nagging hamstring injury.
The Nike Oregon Project's official website posted an interview with Moser in which she reveals getting hurt at the Monaco Diamond League's 1,500-meter run. The hamstring tendon ruptured after she decided to run the 3,000-meter race in London. Moser consulted a doctor in Europe, who advised her against racing in Moscow to avoid any further permanent damage.Devastated to miss World Champs. My hamstring is not responding to treatment fast enough. Go team USA plus @Mo_Farah and @CamLevins
