Lance Armstrong Returns Olympic Medal

The International Olympic Committee asked for it and Lance Armstrong delivered. The former American cyclist has returned his Olympic bronze medal won at the 2000 Olympics in Sydney.

Armstrong is already stripped of his seven Tour De France title victories and banned for life from many cycling, swimming and triathlon events. As of January 2013, the International Olympic Committee no longer recognized his third place finish. Newly elected IOC President Thomas Bach said they would not pursue any legal dispute, but politely asked for the medal's return.

On Thursday, Armstrong tweeted a photo of the bronze medal and said it was back in possession of the United States Olympic Committee. The medal will be shipped to the Olympic headquarters in Lausanne, Switzerland.

In 2005 and 2006, Lance Armstrong ran the New York City Marathon. In 2008, he finished the Boston Marathon in 2:50.58. Boston Athletic Association executive director Tom Grilk said the organizers were considering vacating his time, which would result in everyone placing after 497th place moving up a spot. Armstrong's appearance at races are no longer awarded any attention by race organizers. He has not announced any plans to run any upcoming marathon.
