In 2010, Wallace Spearmon was among the first sprinters to sign with Saucony as the shoe company ventured into the shorter distance realm. After several World Championship and Olympic appearances, Spearmon's contract has expired and is now a free-agent looking for a new shoe deal.
Spearmon turned 29 on Dec. 24 and recently announced that he will be competing during the 2014 indoor track season with meets scheduled in Arkansas as well as the New York Road Runners' Millrose Games. He owns the indoor American 200-meter record of 20.10 set in 2005 and could be looking to make noise again in 2014 with a comeback season.
(Quick flashback: Before Usain Bolt rose to fame at the 2008 Olympics, he was once beat by Wallace Spearmon at the 2007 Reebok Grand Prix.)
2013 was not Spearmon's best year as he struggled early on with injuries, but managed to finish fourth in the 200-meter dash at the U.S. Outdoor Track and Field Championships. He was later added to the national team headed to the IAAF World Championships in Moscow after Tyson Gay tested positive for a performance enhancing drug.
Wallace is just two years removed a solid 2012 season when he broke Michael Johnson's Drake Relays 200-meter dash record and finished fourth in the London Olympic final.
Spearmon is among the more recognizable faces in U.S. sprinting from his success on the track, but he also appeared on two episodes of Mythbusters and posts videos of his workouts on his own Youtube channel.
