The Nike Oregon Project's Mary Cain has withdrawn from the 2014 IAAF Indoor Track and Field Championships with an injury. Heather Kampf, who finished third at the U.S. Indoor Track and Field Championships on February 23rd in Albuquerque, New Mexico, will be Cain's replacement.

“Unfortunately I will not be able to travel to the IAAF World Indoor Championships in Sopot,” Cain said in a statement to USATF. “Over the past week, I developed a discomfort in my lower calf. I had an MRI scan on Saturday and it was all clear,  but I still feel the pain when I wear spikes and have decided not to risk making it worse in Poland.

"I hope to be able to run in the World Indoor Championships many times in the future. I wish all my fellow USA athletes the best and hope they bring home lots of medals from Poland.”

The elated Kampf took to her Facebook page to express her excitement.

Cain, who successfully defended her USA Indoor 1500m title this season, is ranked eighth in the world in the event. Her en route 1500m split at the Boston University Terrier Classic was 4:06.63.

The 2014 IAAF World Indoor T&F Championships will begin Friday, March 7 in Sopot, Poland.
