David Rudisha is walking away from athletics, according to Standard Digital.

“I have done my part and won what I could. I now leave the stage for the other athletes, among them, my brother Francis, who is coming up very well,” Rudisha told FeverPitch.

The 800m world record holder and Olympic champion has been hampered by a knee injury since last March. His last race was on May 25th, at the adidas Grand Prix in New York, NY. Rudisha took the win in the Men's 800m in 1:45.14 and ended his season soon after.

Even after surgery, and at the ripe age of 25, Rudisha feels that his time has come.

We'll have more on this breaking, moderately believable story as it develops.

Note: With April Fools' Day right around the corner, take this with a grain of salt. Roughly one month ago, Rudisha announced on his website that he had resumed his training. Again, we'll have more information when we can confirm the news. If this is satire, it missed the mark in terms of both hilarity and day.

Update 1:30 p.m. CT - Simon Hart of the Daily Telegraph (UK) confirms that the story was an April Fools joke.
