Sherone Simpson suspended
The Jamaican Anti-Doping Commission announced the 18-month suspension of sprinter Sherone Simpson, which was effective on the day of her positive test's sample collection on June 21, 2013. The anti-doping governing body of Jamaica noted her negligence in the process.
Simpson tested positive for oxilofrone and claims a new trainer provided the stimulant. She told JADCO she never knowingly took it and did her own research on “Epiphany D1.” She did not disclose taking the new supplement on doping control forms.
The positive test was one of five by Jamaican athletes in June. Thrower Allison Randall was also suspended on Tuesday. She will be banned from competition for two years.
The JADCO panel will announce the ruling of sprinter Asafa Powell’s hearing on Thursday. Powell also tested positive for oxilofrone at the Jamaican National Championships last June. The sprinter once held the 100-meter dash world record from June 2005 to May 2008. He competed at the 2004, 2008 and 2012. His lone Olympic medal was from the Jamaican 4x100-meter relay in London.
