Jenny Simpson and Mary Cain headline the women's field for the 2014 NYRR Fifth Avenue Mile, Mary Wittenburg, president and CEO of New York Road Runners, announced earlier today. 

Simpson is the recent Diamond League series champion for 1500m. She lowered her personal best in the distance to 3:57.22 in July and will attempt to make 2014 her third Fifth Avenue Mile victory. 

18-year-old Cain will be making her professional debut on the roads. She most recently took home the gold medal in the 3000m at the World Junior Championships in Eugene, Oregon. In June, Cain finished runner-up to Simpson at the 2014 USATF Outdoor Track and Field Championships in the 1500m.

Perhaps two of the most decorated American middle-distance runners of today, Simpson and Cain will be joined by 2012 Fifth Avenue Mile champion Brenda Martinez, Kenyan Sally Kipyego, and Great Britain's Laura Weightman and Hannah England.

Leading the men's field is 2x World Championships medalist Matthew Centrowitz. The Nike Oregon Project member is coming off of 2014 personal bests in the 1500m (3:31.09) and mile (3:50.53). He was the 2012 Fifth Avenue Mile champion.

Joining Centro is Kenyan Augustine Choge, who holds the fastest time in the field with a 3:50.01, 8x NCAA champion Lawi Lalang, and Americans Will Leer, David Torrence, and Garrett Heath. 

The 2014 Fifth Avenue Mile takes place on September 13, 2014. The men's race begins at 12:45 p.m. ET with the women going off at 1:00 p.m. ET.
