Nine Americans to Watch:

1. Meb Keflezighi @Runmeb - The name and face of our sport after winning the 2014 Boston Marathon, Meb returns to NYC after finishing 6th here in 2010. He's got a target on his back after his historic Boston win, which will make for an exciting competition.

2. Ryan Vail @ryanvail - The Oklahoma State alum ran his PB of 2:10:57 in London (10th place) this year and paced Shalane Flanagan to her PB in Berlin in September. He was the first American and 13th at this race last year, but is on the rise to become one of the U.S.'s best.

3. Nick Arciniaga @NickArciniaga - The 2013 USA Marathon Champ and 7th place finisher at the 2014 Boston Marathon is coming off a 1/2 marathon win in Baltimore and could mix things up with fellow Flagstaff-er Vail.

4. Luke Puskedra @lukepuskedra - The Nike Oregon Project athlete and former Oregon Duck is making his marathon debut. His 61:36 half PR (set back in 2012) is no joke, and NYC will mark Puskedra's first race in his new event.

5. Stephan Shay @stephanshay - The brother of the late Ryan Shay is looking to better his 2:16:48 PR on the same course that his brother suffered a heart attack on during the Olympic Trials in 2007.

6. Deena Kastor @DeenaKastor - The American Record holder ran a Master's WR for the half marathon in Philly this year, and is hoping to run 2:25. That time would smash the American Master's record of 2:28:40 set by Colleen de Reuck.

7. Des Linden @des_linden - Making her NYC debut, Linden, formerly Davila, threw down a 2:23:54 in Boston to finish 10th. She is the favorite to finish as the first American in NYC.

8. Kara Goucher @karagoucher - Goucher is making her highly anticipated return to the marathon after finishing 6th at the 2013 Boston Marathon. Her return to NYC is special, as this is where she ran her first 26.2 in 2008.

9. Lauren Kleppin @laurenkleppin - At just 25, Kleppin is the fourth fastest American in the field. She ran her 2:28:48 PB to finish third at the 2014 LA Marathon, shaving 13 minutes off of her previous best.
