Justin Gatlin
Justin Gatlin was the most dominant sprinter in the world in 2014. The 32-year-old ran personal bests of 9.77 and 19.68 in the 100m and 200m in 2014, both of which were the fastest times in the world. Gatlin took full advantage of Usain Bolt’s absence, going undefeated throughout the entire season. His dominance was highlighted by the fastest ever one-day sprint double in Brussels, running 9.77 in the 100m and 19.71 in the 200m over the span of just an hour.

Gatlin’s 2014 campaign came with a firestorm of criticism. The 2004 Olympic champion served a four-year doping ban from 2006 to 2010, and his remarkable performances in 2014, at age 32 no less, raised more than a few eyebrows. Track and field needs the type of excitement that Gatlin provided in 2014, but only if it comes from a clean individual. Let’s hope Gatlin’s past is completely in the past.
