Dzhokhar Tsarnaev Guilty In Boston Marathon Bombing Case

Dzhokhar Tsarnaev was found guilty of all 30 counts in the 2013 Boston Marathon bombing trial on Wednesday and now faces the death penalty.

Tsarnaev showed no emotion in the courtroom as guilty verdicts were read on all charges, 17 of which carry the death penalty. The same jury will now decide whether he should be sentenced to life in prison or to death.

That penalty phase of the case could begin as soon as next week and could last nearly two weeks. Scheduling has yet to be determined.

Tsarnaev was on trial for his role in the bombings that took place at the 2013 Boston Marathon, which killed three spectactors, Krystle Campbell, Lu Lingzi, and Martin Richard, blew the limbs off 17 others and injured 240 more along Boylston Street.

In a still photograph taken at the scene, Tsarnaev was seen dropping a backpack that prosecutors said contained a pressure-cooker bomb in the middle of the crowd, just behind eight-year-old Martin Richard who was killed at the blast. He also faces the charges relating to the murder of MIT police officer Sean Collier three days later.

Tsarnaev's attorneys had argued that he was under the influence of his older brother Tamerlan Tsarnaev, who was killed in a police shootout days later after the marathon bombing. Legal analysts told ABC News that the strategy was not designed to win the trial, but to avoid the death penalty.
