Brooks PR Match-Up: Allie Ostrander vs. Anna Rohrer

In our latest Brooks PR Match-Up, we breakdown the PR's and head to head outcomes (or lack thereof) between the two national cross country champions from this past fall in Anna Rohrer from Indiana and Allie Ostrander from Alaska.

We unfortunately did not get a chance to see this fall's top two nationally ranked cross country runners actually battle it out on the grass and hills of an XC course. Both Rohrer and Ostrander were dominant forces on the national cross country landscape with Rohrer winning her second Foot Locker National title in three years, while Ostrander became the state of Alaska's first national champion at NXN. The debate after both claimed national cross country individual crowns became exactly Who's #1?

The fact that both athletes were MileSplit's first On The Rise premium video series featured athletes only adds to the anticipation of the first ever head to head match-up in the Brooks PR Invitational two mile between two high school superstars of the sport. Many fans of the sport and of both runners have been waiting to see this race for a long time.

While neither has the flashy mile times that match up well with the country's current fastest milers hovering around 4:40, both have incredible aerobic engines that make them thrive at distances of 2 miles or greater. Rohrer set a national indoor record in the 5K this past March at 16:10, while Ostrander has broken 10 minutes for 3200 meters both indoors (9:59.33) and outdoors (9:58.74) this year.

It will especially be interesting these next two weeks to see how Rohrer will respond and a test of her ability to change gears faster than ever before against a field of girls who have faster PR's for 3200 meters or less. She has a strong refusal to lose as she has not suffered a defeat in a race at 3200 meters or 5000 meters since late September of 2012.

After skipping the Arcadia Invite in early April, Ostrander has been circling the Brooks PR Invitational as the meet to challenge Bethan Knights' year old national record in the two mile at 9:52. She has been dealing with a nagging hip injury as of late, which has forced her to sit out from racing for the first two weeks of June in hopes of healing and being ready to go for the Brooks PR two mile next weekend.

Despite Ostrander's questionable health status to race at Brooks PR and regardless of the outcome of a Anna Rohrer vs. Allie Ostrander face-off next weekend, both aim to make immediate impacts next fall as freshmen for their teams and on the NCAA national cross country scene. They should certainly see each other more often than they did in high school. Ostrander is headed down to the Lower 48 in the fall and will attend Boise State, while Rohrer is only making a 15 minute drive from her hometown of Mishawaka, Indiana to attend Notre Dame in South Bend.

Both Anna Rohrer and Allie Ostrander will be competing at the Brooks PR Invitational in the girls two mile run on Saturday, June 20th in Seattle. Who will come out with the Fastest PR then? Watch LIVE on MileSplit and Flotrack on June 20th to find out!
