FloTrack Flashback: Edward Cheserek Runs 3:36.50

Edward Cheserek
has only run two 1500m races in his college career.

The first was a preliminary race at the 2014 Pac-12 Championships where he jogged to a 3:56.05, succesfully qualifying to the conference finals.

His second 1500m race was just a day later, where he improved on his personal best by nearly 20 seconds, running a 3:36.50 at Washington State's home track. The time was good for a second place finish in an epic duel against Arizona's NCAA Champion Lawi Lalang.

The Pac-12 Championships were highlighted in this edition of Run Junkie from May 20th 2014.

Cheserek remains a dominant force in the NCAA distance scene. After winning the 10K at the 2014 NCAA Outdoor Championships and the 10K title in cross country, Ches added even more NCAA titles to his collection the following year. He won the indoor mile against Montana State's Cristian Soratos, anchored the Oregon DMR team to a first place finish and more recently, won both the 10K and the 5K at this year's NCAA Outdoor Championships. All together, Cheserek has eight NCAA titles to his name.

Tonight at 9:15 p.m. PT, Edward Cheserek will race his first 1500m since the 2014 Pac-12 Championships, and it's not going to be tactical.

Cheserek will be accompanied by teammate Daniel Winn, Riley Masters, and most notably, USA Championships second-place finisher Robby Andrews. This will be Andrews' first attempt at the nailing the IAAF "A" standard of 3:36.20. Andrews' PR in the 1500m dates back to 2012, where he ran a 3:34.78 at the Oxy High Performance Invitational. Could Cheserek beat Andrews? Will Andrews hit the standard?

FloTrack will be live streaming the Portland Summer Twilight from Lewis & Clark College on Thursday. Coverage begins at 10:20 p.m. CT.
