We got an exclusive glimpse today at what will soon be the track for the 2016 IAAF World Indoor Championships in Portland.

ItÂ’s still early, but the shell of the 200m banked track appears to be in place. ThereÂ’s not much else to see so far, but hey, itÂ’s something!  

While the set-up is still in its infancy, the progress report is a welcome sight as weÂ’re now within 100 days of the first US-hosted World Indoor event since the inaugural competition in 1987. Dates are set for March 17th-20th, with the pole vault kicking things off on opening night.

Once built, the track will move into its home at the Oregon Convention Center in downtown Portland, the 7,000-seat stadium that will house the international competition. According to Portland2016.com, "the track covers more than 40,000 square feet, weighs over 200 tons and includes 1,400 panels. There are more than 100 tons of steel and 2,000 adjustable legs in the frame and the banking on the turns is 10 degrees."

Last March at the One Year Out Press Conference, the released mock-ups of the finished product displayed a bright green track that appeared to illuminate against the dark back drop of the facility.
