Emily Infeld's Bronze Medal in the IAAF World Championship 10,000m

Emily Infeld of the Bowerman Track Club shocked the world with her upset Bronze medal finish at the IAAF World Championship 10K final as Infeld was the only U.S. distance athlete to medal at the World Championships. InfeldÂ’s journey to the podium began in the spring when she ran her first track race in two years when she finished the 10K race in 31:38 at the Payton Jordan Invitational. Infeld followed up that performance with a third-place finish at the USATF Championships. However, Infeld remained quiet after qualifying for Beijing and did not race in between the two championships.

Within the BirdÂ’s Nest, 24.9 laps into the 25 lap race it appeared the U.S. favorite, Molly Huddle would secure a medal for Team USA, but in a shocking turn of events Infeld continued to kick down the homestretch and caught Huddle by surprise. Her gutsy performance wasnÂ’t just an upset on that day, but after battling injuries and running essentially zero track races in two years, her third-place finish in the world is something that no one saw coming — It was the ultimate upset of 2015.
