We developed a formula to rank the top 25 athletes in NCAA Division I track and field based on who will make the most impact at the 2016 NCAA Outdoor Championships in Eugene, Oregon. FloTrack's Week 1 Power Rankings have some new faces for the outdoor season.
This week's men's rankings show the strength of Virginia's throwers. Juniors Filip Mihaljevic and Jordan Young are both in the top 5 due to their dominance in multiple throwing events. Also, it is notable that only one distance athlete is in the top 15. Edward Cheserek the lone distance athlete at the top of the rankings has been #1 all indoor season long and looks to hold onto his #1 ranking for the foreseeable future.
On the women's side, we see the debut of Arkansas' Dominique Scott and New Mexico's Courtney Frerichs. Both of these ladies did not compete during indoors but look to have a big impact on the outdoor scene. Also, unlike the men the distance women are all over the top 25 with seven ladies cracking the top 25 in this week's rankings.
