Will we see Lance Armstrong toe the line for 26.2 miles this fall? Thanks to a partial lifting of his competitive Olympic sports ban, it could happen.

As of August 24, 2016, the American cyclist who had seven Tour de France titles stripped can now compete in certain events -- other than cycling, of course.

USADA spokesman Ryan Madden told USA TODAY Sports that Armstrong "can compete in a sanctioned event at a national or regional level in a sport other than cycling that does not qualify him... to compete in a national championship or international event."

Armstrong still is banned for life from cycling. But could he race a major market marathon this fall?! MAYBE.

Armstrong has three marathons under his belt: New York City twice (2006 and 2007) and Boston once (2008). He boasts a personal best of 2:46.43. Back in 2012, before the USADA ban, Armstrong was very competitive in triathlons and expressed interest in running the Chicago Marathon.

He was eventually banned from the Chicago Marathon, and one can only wonder if the uber-competitive, ex-greatest cyclist of all time was attempting to break 2:45, or simply knock another major marathon off of his bucket list.

While it seems possible that man who fell in love with winning at age 11 would like another shot at glory, Armstrong will turn 45 on Sunday, September 18. He told USA TODAY Sports that "my days of competing are past me... I am now 45 years old, and just exercise these days for general fitness and for my sanity."

Although it's unlikely, keep your eyes fixed on the starting lines of road races this fall -- you never know where Armstrong may pop up next.
