Two American Records Highlight Brussels Diamond League
The Memorial Van Damme in Brussels, the final Diamond League competition of the year, ended with American records from Shannon Rowbury in the 5K and Sandi Morris in the pole vault, among several other breakthrough performances. Catch up on the top highlights from Friday's meet below:

Shannon Rowbury Shatters 5K American Record
Although the race was hyped up as a world-record attempt for Almaz Ayana, Rowbury stole the show for U.S. fans. The Nike Oregon Project standout finished fifth overall in 14:38.92 to break Molly Huddle's previous American record of 14:42.64 from 2014.

Rowbury's performance followed Ayana's victory, which was won in 14:18.89 -- just seven seconds off of the world record set by Tirunesh Dibaba in 2008. Ayana set the world record in the 10K, along with Olympic gold, three weeks ago.

Rowbury's race in Brussels notched her second American record since shattering Mary Decker's 1500m American record last year. She is the first woman since Decker to hold both records.

Sandi Morris Crushes Her Own Outdoor Pole Vault American Record
The Olympic silver medalist improved her own outdoor American record with a clearance of 5.00m to win the pole vault against Katerina Stefanidi of Greece. Morris' previous outdoor best was 4.93m, which she set in Houston a few weeks ago. Her Brussels performance is an outdoor American record as her mark is below Jenn Suhr's indoor best of 5.03m.

Conseslus Kipruto Falls Short of Steeplechase World Record
The Olympic champion was unable to meet his goal of breaking the world record as the pacers took the race out too slow to break 7:53. Kipruto won the over Olympic silver medalist Evan Jager with a winning time of 8:03.74. Jager followed in 8:04.01 to finish short of his goal of breaking his own American record.

Although both missed their marks, Americans Hillary Bor and Andy Bayer each ran personal bests of 8:13.68 and 8:16.11, respectively.

Elaine Thompson Remains Undefeated in 100m
The double Olympic champion from Jamaica kept her undefeated streak alive with a stunning victory in the 100m. Thompson closed for a winning time of 10.72 to beat Dutch rival Dafne Schippers in a new Memorial Van Damme meet record. Her performance solidified her place as the overall Diamond League champion.

800m Olympic Champion Caster Semenya Shows Versatility in the 400m
The South African 800m star showcased her dominance in the shorter sprint when she beat Courtney Okolo to win the 400m in Brussels. Fresh off her Olympic gold performance and undefeated Diamond League streak, Semenya edged out Okolo to claim the victory in 50.40. The performance improved her previous personal best of 50.74.
