IAAF Announces Partnership With ASICS
ASICS and the International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) announced a partnership on Saturday.
ASICS and the International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) announced a partnership on Saturday.
As the new Official IAAF Partner, ASICS will be involved in the upcoming 2017 world championships and the 2019 world championships, among other IAAF events.
"I am so happy to have the honor of supporting the IAAF as an Official Partner," said ASICS President and CEO Motoi Oyama in an IAAF statement. "We at ASICS hope to both develop excellent products and contribute to the growth of the sporting world as a whole by supporting athletics around the globe as an Official Partner of the IAAF."
The partnership follows the departure of long-time sponsor adidas which recently ended its deal that was scheduled to run through 2019. The 11-year sponsorship deal with adidas was worth a reported $33 million. News of the sponsorship ending early started to spread towards the end of 2015 after reports of corruption in the IAAF began to surface.
"Global athletics starts a new chapter today based on solid foundations of modern governance and a renewed determination to protect and promote clean athletes," IAAF President Sebastian Coe said. "We are delighted to have attracted ASICS, a world-class sportswear designer and manufacturer, as our latest Official IAAF Partner to share this new journey with us."
