Best FloTrack Races of 2016: McGorty, Hunter, Lomong Dive to 1:48
In one of the most exciting high school 800m races ever, Drew Hunter, Brandon McGorty, and Alex Lomong threw down a finish-line dive to run the No. 3, No. 4, and No. 5 fastest high school times of the year at the Dogwood Track Classic.

McGorty, who committed to Stanford this fall, established an early lead on the field by taking the pace out in a brisk 52-second 400m split. Meanwhile, Hunter and Lomong trailed a few meters behind. The final straightaway proved to be an all-out battle when Hunter and Lomong rapidly closed on McGorty. The trio closed in a photo finish in which McGorty claimed the victory in 1:48.58. Hunter finished second in 1:48.64, and Lomong followed for third in 1:48.67.

Hunter went on to double in the same meet with an 8:43 3200m victory. One month later, the teenager signed a professional contract with adidas. McGorty ended his junior year at Chantilly High School with a Virginia state title and a fifth-place finish at the USATF Junior Outdoor Championships. Lomong's college prospects multiplied after the 1:48 performance, and he eventually committed to Ohio State.
