Galen Rupp is out of the Houston Half Marathon with an injury
Ryan Hall's half marathon American record will last a while longer. Galen Rupp is pulling out of the Houston Half Marathon. He told event organizers that "Unfortunately I will be unable to race on Sunday due to plantar fasciitis in my foot. It is improving, but not enough to run a half marathon on. I hope to get the chance to run the Aramco Houston Half Marathon in the future."
Rupp is the 2016 Olympic bronze medalist in the marathon. The event announced that the women's Olympic marathon bronze medalist, Mare Dibaba, is also pulling out of the race because of a death in the family.
With Rupp and Dibaba out, the most interesting runners in Houston are probably Feyisa Lilesa and Jordan Hasay, who are both running the half marathon on Sunday. Lilesa won silver in the Olympic marathon and crossed the finish line with an iconic protest; this is Hasay's half marathon debut.
