The defending Olympic and London Marathon champion might be the third-best Kenyan in the London field, which was announced today. Jemima Sumgong, who won those two titles last year, is returning to London to defend her title. Mary Keitany, who wasn't selected for the Kenyan Olympic team last summer but dominated the New York City Marathon as a consolation prize, is in the field. And Vivian Cheruiyot, who dethroned Almaz Ayana at the Olympics and broke the Olympic record in the 5K, will make her debut at 33.

Keitany and Sumgong were at the center of one of last year's pivotal moments when they tripped over each other nine miles into the race in London. Sumgong got up and won the race; Keitany struggled home in ninth place and arguably was left off the Kenyan Olympic team as a result.

2016 Berlin champion Aberu Kebede, defending Tokyo champ Helah Kiprop, and 2016 Chicago winner Florence Kiplagat will also be there, meaning that last year's New York, Berlin, Chicago, Tokyo, and Olympic winners will all be in London in April.

In addition to Kebede, two more stud Ethiopians will be there: Olympic marathon bronze medalist Mare Dibaba and Olympic 10K bronze medalist Tirunesh Dibaba.

Tirunesh Dibaba and Cheruiyot are two of the greatest track runners of all time; Keitany and Kiplagat are two of the best road runners ever; and Sumgong might be the best marathoner in the world right now.

Americans Laura Thweatt and Kellyn Taylor will also be in the field. It's Thweatt's first marathon since her impressive 2:28 debut in 2015, and Taylor's first since finishing sixth at the Olympic Trials.
