Team USA notched the first gold medal of the competition and the country's third consecutive victory in the 4x800m at the IAAF World Relays.
The quartet of Chanelle Price, Olympian Chrishuna Williams, Laura Roesler, and Charlene Lipsey beat Belarus in a winning time of 8:16.36 Saturday night in Nassau, Bahamas.
Price, who has competed at World Relays for the past three championships, led off with a 2:01.73 split. She handed off to Williams who split 2:03.72. Roesler received the baton in second-place but brought the team back into first by the final exchange where she split 2:03.05. By the time Lipsey accepted the baton, Team USA had a sizable lead over the competition. She was able to relax with a 2:07.86 anchor leg into the finish line.
The championship marks the third victory for Team USA in the women's 4x800m at the IAAF World Relays. In 2014, the team of Price, Geena Lara, Ajee Wilson, and Brenda Martinez beat Kenya for the win in 8:01.58. In 2015, Price, Maggie Vessey, Molly Beckwith-Ludlow, and Alysia Montano ran 8:00.62 to beat Poland for gold.
