Just two weeks after Oregon broke the 4x100m collegiate record, LSU answered the challenge by tying the mark at the SEC Relays.

The LSU team of Mikiah Brisco, Kortnei Johnson, Jada Martin, and Aleia Hobbs blasted an unchallenged effort of 42.12 Saturday in Baton Rouge, LA. The stunning performance ties the collegiate record set by Oregon at the Mt. SAC Relays on April 15. The same LSU line-up finished runner-up to the Ducks in 42.14.

The Tigers' SEC Relays performance means that both teams share the NCAA record.

"You got to compete with the best to be the best," Brisco said when asked about the sprint rivalry.

After running the record, the LSU squad maintained that they could run even faster if they improve their hand-offs. Hobbs, who anchored the relay, admitted that she needs to work on her lean at the finish line.

"I tend to lean too early before I get to the line and I kind of stop running a bit, but I'm trying to get it right," Hobbs said.

"We'll have it right by nationals," Brisco added.

LSU and Oregon won't meet again until the NCAA Outdoor Championships in June, where the race will be on to see which team can break the tie and win an NCAA title.
