Thiago Braz da Silva, the reigning Olympic gold medalist in the pole vault, has reportedly withdrawn from the 2017 IAAF World Championships in London and ended his season due to "due to poor form, a calf injury, and back pain," according to Brazilian media.

The Brazilian's world-qualifying mark of 5.86m, set indoors in January, was ranked sixth globally with the world championships just three days away. In the outdoor season, the 23-year-old's form began to slip; he recorded his best vault at 5.60m.

At the 2016 Games in Rio, Braz da Silva upset world record-holder Renaud Lavillenie of France with an Olympic-record 6.03m vault to earn Brazil its only gold medal.
