Reigning World & Olympic Champ Derek Drouin Out Of Worlds With Injury
Olympic high jump champion Derek Drouin has withdrawn from the 2017 IAAF World Championships.
The defending World and Olympic high jump champion Derek Drouin will not be competing in the 2017 IAAF World Championships in London due to an achilles injury, according to Athletics Canada.
Drouin, who has also dabbled in the heptathlon throughout his career, has taken home a high jump medal at every global track and field championship since the 2012 Olympics, but his 2017 season has gone as smoothly. His season's best jump was a 2.25m effort that placed him just 53rd among his competitors this year.
The men's high jump is scheduled to being on Friday, August 11. Drouin's support team expected they would be able to solve his injury woes just in time for that day, but the team "just ran out of time," according to Drouin.
Drouin still plans to continue training with the goal of being healthy to compete in the Commonwealth Games and NACAC Championships in 2018.
