Kaela Edwards Is Moving To Boulder To Train With Emma Coburn
Kaela Edwards, the 2016 NCAA indoor mile champion and adidas-sponsored middle distance runner, announced on social media this afternoon that she is moving to Boulder, Colorado, to train with Emma Coburn, the newly crowned world champion for steeplechase.

The Oklahoma State product will be coached by Joe Bosshard, who has trained his fianceé, Coburn, since her Olympic bronze medal run in Rio last summer. Edwards, an 800m and 1500m specialist, adds a new dynamic to the training group which also includes Jamaican steeplechaser Aisha Praight-Leer, who made the world final this summer but was disqualified.

Coburn is the first American woman in history to win gold in the steeplechase at a global championship event and her time of 9:02.58 took five seconds off her own American record.

Edwards ended her career in Stillwater with six individual All-American honors and personal best marks of 2:01.97 for 800m and 4:10.46 for 1500m, the latter of which was set this summer in Lignano. The PB was a nice boost after failing to advance past the first round of the 1500m at either NCAAs or USAs. She also set the collegiate record for 1K this year in 2:40.79.

Both Coburn and Praught-Leer have run 4:05 for 1500m. Edwards has never steeplechased before.

It's worth noting that all three women have different shoe sponsors. Edwards signed with adidas at USAs this year, while Coburn represents New Balance and Praight-Leer is an Under Armour athlete.

Edwards is originally from Colorado, where she was a two-time Class 5A state runner-up for Littleton High School in the 400m and 800m back in 2012.

Fellow up-and-coming middle distance runner Drew Hunter also moved to Boulder this month, though he said via direct message on Twitter that he's not joining a specific group. Like Edwards, the 20-year-old is sponsored by adidas. He's originally from Virginia, where he graduated from Loudoun Valley High School in 2016.
