Mizzou's No. 1 Karissa Schweizer kept her early season rolling in style with her biggest win of the year at the Cowboy Jamboree in Stillwater, OK this morning, leading her No. 22 Missouri women to a third-place finish behind Ole Miss and No. 12 Penn State. On the men's side, teammates Sylvester Barus and No. 11 Hassan Abdi went 1-2 to lead the hometown favorites to their sixth consecutive team victory, tying Arkansas' record for back-to-back wins at the nation's oldest continually-held cross country meet.

The women's 6K began first, and while most eyes were on the individual race for pre-season title favorite Karissa Schweizer, the team battle was also significant as No. 12 Penn State women had a lot to prove in the wake of the absence of their top runner in Elizabeth Chikotas, and projected top-five scorer Tessa Barrett. Senior Jillian Hunsberger led the way well with a fourth-place showing in 21:06, but ultimately the team was edged out by an unheralded and unranked Ole Miss squad, 48 to 44. The Rebels were helped by seniors Hannah Christen and Emily Bean, who went 3-5 sandwiching Barrett and only behind Schweizer and Northwestern sophomore Aubrey Roberts.

The men's race was expected to be an even tighter battle and it delivered, with the host team in No. 17 Oklahoma State pulling through for a win and just barely preventing the No. 24 Ole Miss men from sweeping both genders by two points, 42 to 44. Leading the way for the Cowboys were Sylvester Barus and No. 11 Hassan Abdi, who cruised in to the finish once they realized they had the top two spots secured. The win marked Barus' third consecutive individual Cowboy Jamboree title -- though notably the first of those wins was in the College race for Iowa Western.
