Lavillenie and Adams WIN IAAF Athlete of the Year
Renaud Lavillenie and Valerie Adams were named the 2014 IAAF Athlete of the Year award winners at the World Athletics Gala in Monaco on Friday.
Lavillenie is coming off a season in which he broke Sergey Bubka's indoor pole vault world record with a clearance of 6.16-meters at the Pole Vault Stars Meeting in Donetsk. During the outdoor season, he racked up more hardware by defending his European title and fifth Diamond League crown.
Adams opened her year with a world indoor title at the IAAF World Indoor Championships in Sopot, Poland. During the outdoor season, Adams won all seven Diamond League meetings to extend her winning streak that dates back to 2010.
